Matthew Arundell BA(Hons) PGCE

I am currently a Music Performance Lecturer at Truro, Penwith College working on the Level 3 Music Ensemble units. Here I am helping the 2nd year students to develop their ensemble performance skills (musical, organisational and inter-personal). Alongside this, I support with curriculum planning, quality and improvement.

I have also worked as a peripatetic Guitar/Ukulele/Bass teacher for over 20 years. I work in Primary and Secondary schools throughout Cornwall and have many private students, which I teach both face to face and online. I work with all ages and support complete beginners to working musicians. Many students have gained formal qualifications to Diploma level.

2010 – 2021 Previously I was a Music Performance Lecturer and Guitar Teacher at The University of Plymouth in Devon. My responsibilities as a Lecturer were developing ensemble skills, module writing, assessment and standardisation. In my role as the University Guitar Teacher I was working with 1st year students to build solid technique and instrument specific theoretical knowledge. With the 2nd and 3rd year students I was helping them to develop and rehearse a recital performance.

2004 – 2019 Previously I was a Music Lecturer at Cornwall College for 15 years. My responsibilities included curriculum design, course management, assessment, internal verification, pastoral care, UCAS processes and delivery of units (performance, improvisation, contextual studies, music technology, acoustics, composition etc.).

1998 – 2010 Previously I was a freelance Music Workshop Leader, working for the likes of Beaford Arts, EOS and Livewire. I worked with groups of young people to develop performance opportunities and skills.
